Tales of Symphonia Review « Thread Started on Jul 24, 2007, 8:05am »
I'm Kinda bored and in a "writing mood", So I thought i'll post of review of a game I have
Age Rating: 12+ Release dates:
JAPAN: August 29, 2003 (GCN) USA: July 13, 2004 (GCN) EUROPE: November 19, 2004 (GCN)
Story
The story I found was quite interesting, as with all RPGs it starts out small in a tiny remote Village that no one really knows about, and then you end up going on a journey that will change your life forever and all that cliched stuff etc. What I do like is that it has a bit of a twist to the story half way through and theres some conspiracies and secrets going on between this strange organization of angels, involving a hidden world that intertines with your world, when one suffers the other prospers. Although cliched, it does have a unique and sometimes confusing storyline, which does prove to be interesting.

Graphics
The graphics in this game are mostly great, I quite like the Cel shaded look, the towns are well detailed and the characters look great (for pictures scroll down to the bottom). I also must say that the explosive and colourful attacks during battle are brillant and detailed. This game is however let down sometimes in cut scenes when it decides half the screen should go out of focus, although rare that it happens it is annoying, luckly it only happens in events and not battles or anything else, sometimes when the characters walk in cutscenes its embarrassing to watch. The Overworld Map is also sightly ugly.

Gameplay
This is where the game shines, the battles are just BRILLIANT, always fun, colourful and challenging. In battles you have direct contol over your character, your free to move around the battle field, without this taking turns nonsence, up to three other CPU controlled characters help you in battle, supporting you with a well done set up system for controling how they help you out, there are tons of moves to earn and easy to pull off. Bttles also support mulitplayer if you prefer your friends rather than the CPU to help you, though this is a bit of a let down. The other half of the gameplay is of course dungeons and towns, and while the Towns are great, the dungeons aren't always so good. the design of dungeons are great in my opinion, however the puzzles can be down right annoying, tedious and unimaginative, for example pushing a block in a hole, gee that was tough. but I have to admit some puzzles are fun, and though a little crazy, thought has gone into it, Like the no gravity puzzle near the end.
Battle 9/10 Dungeons 6/10
Lifespan
This game is LONG. Around 45 hours without side quests it took me, and if your new to RPGs or doing it on a tough mode then 60+. I would say it has replay value too, but not right after you have just finished of course different modes include Mania, which is almost impossible. I have played through it twice so far.
9/10
Overall
I think its a great game with a few more good points than bad. definatly worth a look, and if you see it on sale, or its price is low, without a doubt BUY IT!
8/10 (scroll down for Pics ) Hope you enjoyed my review!

i thought the game was extremely fun, but the dialogue was awful
That was the main issue with me as well. Generally the game had a good concept and kickass gameplay, but the dialogue was poorly written and poorly executed...but if you're not taking it seriously, it's really funny to listen to.
